Joy brings more than 30 years of energy industry experience spanning commercial
strategy, operations, and executive leadership. Most recently, he served as CEO of the
University of Iowa Energy Collaborative (UIEC), a $1.3 billion joint venture providing
utility services — power, steam, water, and more — to the University of Iowa. In that
role, he managed a long-term institutional contract, oversaw operating and capital
budgets, and led efforts to secure funding for major infrastructure expansions.
Prior to UIEC, Joy served as Senior Vice President, Commercial at AltaGas Ltd., where
he led all commercial power, gas, and NGL business activities, managed a team of 60+
and an annual contribution margin of CA$400M, and helped drive over $500M in new
investment. Earlier in his career he held senior origination and business development
roles at NRG Energy and ENGIE North America, with deep expertise in M&A, contract
negotiations, project finance, and renewable energy.
Joy holds an MBA and a BA in Economics and Applied Math from Rice University, and
carries CFA, CMA, CPA, and FRM credentials.
